About Central Library

The Central Library of Nalbari Commerce College, Nalbari has good collection which includes textbooks, reference books, Journals, Magazines and newspapers. The size of the library is 3240 sq.ft. The library is automated with digital facilities using Integrated Library Management System (ILMS). Adequate subscriptions to e-resources and journals are made. The library is optimally used by the faculty and students. Nalbari Commerce College, Nalbari also has 12 departmental libraries along with the Central library. The Central Library is fully automated with SOUL 3.0 ILMS and Barcode technology. Library has a reading room with around 40 seating capacity for students. A student can borrow 2 books for 15 days and faculty members can borrow 20 books for 90 days.

Library Area:

• Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) in the Library : Library is automated with digital facilities using Integrated Library Management System (ILMS). Adequate subscriptions to e-resources and journals are made. The library is optimally used by the faculty and students. The central library of the college is running with the help of SOUL3.0 software through which circulation work of the library has been started by using bar code in the students’ Library Card.
• Register Attendance : Register based attendance system for both students and staffs is available.
• Book Browsing : The holdings of the library can be searched using OPAC facilities.
• Digital Library : It has a separate digital library section with 8 computers and all are connected with internet.
• Membership of E-Contents : The Library is a member of the INFLIBNET N-LIST facilities. The users can access E-books and E-journals available in the N-LIST database and E-books through NDLI.
• Wi-Fi based Library : Library users can use the Airtel Fibre for Wi-Fi service in the reading hall and in the digital library section.
• CCTV Surveillance : The college library is under CCTV surveillance.
• Other Services : Reprographic facility is also available for the library users.

There is a Library Committee for library management including Principal, IQAC Co-Ordinator, Librarian and few faculty members. The library purchases new books as per the requisition given by the faculty members. Students also communicate to teachers for any requirement of resources in the library. Faculties are provided with a standard Book Requisition Form which they fill up with the required books. Librarian forwards the requisition to the Principal. The Principal then place the matter in the meeting of the Library Committee. After approval of the Library Committee a market survey is done by the Library Committee and based on the recommendation of the Library Committee the Principal places order for the books with the vendor. Library also has a purchase suggestion box where library users can suggest books to be purchased.

Library orientation programme is carried out for new students where details about the library collection, services, timing and doubts of students if any are clarified. Various activities like Lecture Sessions, Group Discussions, Quiz Competition, Debate Competition among students are organized regularly. The Librarian’s Day is also celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan.
