The Department of Accountancy was opened in the year of establishment of the college on 16 July, 1979 by introducing the subject Book-Keeping at pre-university level which falls under the Department as per syllabi and curriculum of the affiliating University. Late Rabi Chandra Barman was the founder lecturer in the department. After introduction of under-graduate courses in the college in 1984, Mr. Ram Niwas Choudhury was appointed lecturer in the Department but he left the college before the college was brought under Deficiit-grant-in-Aid System by the Government of Assam. Dr. Atul Chandra Haloi, at present Associate Professor of the Department joined in 1984. Dr. Haloi took initiative in introducing Major/Honours in Accountancy and accordingly it came into effect in 1987. With a view to facilitating teaching Major in Accountancy as well as pass courses in the department, Mr. Prasanna Sarma was appointed in 1988 followed by Dr. Umesh Talukdar in the 1989. It was unfortunate that Professor Prasanna Sarma had left for his heavenly abode in the 2009 and Dr. Nupur Kalita was appointed to the vacant post in 2011.Now, Dr. Nupur Kalita is working as Sr. Assistant Professor and HOD for the Department and Dr. Rimakhi Borah is working as Assistant Professor for the Accountancy Department. Also presently Jupitara Dutta has been rendering service to the department as Assistant Professor on contractual basis.
