The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the  youth wing  of the  Indian Armed Forces  with its headquarters in  New Delhi, India . It offers voluntary membership to school and college students across the country. The NCC is a Tri-Services Organisation, meaning it comprises the Army, Air, and Navy Wings. It functions as a platform for the youth of India to receive basic military training. The NCC recruits cadets from schools, colleges, and universities. However, it is noteworthy that neither the cadets nor the officers are obligated to join military services post their course completion. "Unity and Discipline" was chosen as the motto of NCC in the Central Advisory Committee meeting held on 12 th October 1980. In 1949, the Girls Division was formed in order to provide equal opportunities to school and college- going girls. In 1950 the Air Wing was added followed by the Naval Wing in 1952.

The aims of NCC are :

• a)   To develop following qualities in the cadets- (1) Development of Character, (2) Comradeship, (3) Discipline (4) Secular Outlook, (5) Spirit of Adventure,         (6) Sportsmanship, (7) Ideals of selfless service among the youth of the country.
• b)   To create a human resource of Organised, Trained and Motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life and always be available for the service of         the nation.
• c)   To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the Armed Forces.

Objectives of the NCC are:

• a)   Reach out to the maximum youths through various institutions.
• b)   Make NCC as an important part of the society.
• c)   Teach positive thinking and attitude to the youths.
• d)   Become a main source of National Integration by making NCC as one of the greatest cohesive force of our nation irrespective of any caste, creed, religion        or region.
• e)   Mould the youth of the entire country into a united, secular and disciplined citizens of the nation.
• f)   Provide an ideal platform for the youth to showcase their potential in nation building.
• g)   Instil spirit of secularism and united India by organizing National Integration Camps all over the country.
• h)   Reach out to the youths of friendly foreign countries through Youth Exchange Programmes (YEP).

The NCC Unit of Nalbari Commerce College was started in 2020 under the controlling unit of 50 Assam Air Sqn (Flying) NCC, Guwahati. The written approval of ADG for the new raising of the NCC unit in the college was accorded vide letter No. 50Air/525/1/Est/NCC dtd. 11 February, 2021. Dr. Manoj Kumar Kalita, Associate Professor, Department of English was appointed Care Taker Officer (CTO) of the NCC unit on 1 st December, 2020. The unit started with 17 cadets (15 SD and 2 SW) in 2020. Since 2020, the unit has enrolled more than 100 cadets out of which 42 cadets have passed B Certificate Examination and 09 cadets have passed C Certificate Examination. Almost 50 cadets of the units have completed Annual Training Camps, Combined Annual Training Camps, Trekking Camps, Pre-Vayu Sena Camps, Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Camps etc. The unit claimed the 2 nd Best Parade Team in the Independence Day Parade, 2022 organized by Nalbari District Administration and the 1 st Best Parade Team in the Independence Day Parade in 2024 organized by Nalbari District Administration. Besides the normal activities of the unit, it has been serving the local community in various ways with dedication and sincerity. Dr. Manoj Kumar Kalita has been rendering his service as Associate NCC Officer (ANO) since 20 December, 2022 after completing ANO training on 17 December, 2022 from Officer Training Academy, Kamptee, Nagpur and Air Force Station, Tambaram, Chennai.
