About Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Centre (SDEC) :

The Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Centre (SDEC) of Nalbari Commerce College was setup in the year 2023 under the Department of B. Voc. IT as per guidance of Dr. Basanta Kalita, Principal Nalbari Commerce College. The centre is consisting of seventy computers with licensed operating systems as well as open source ones. The centre is equipped with all necessary equipments for its courses as per IT and Electronics Sector Skill Council of India and National Skill Development Corporation norms. Besides its normal activities, the centre has also been providing various support to the student, teaching and non-teaching staff of the college as mentioned below.

• • Institutional website update.
• • Placement support to certified students.
• • Conduction of Seminar, Workshop, OJT, etc.
• • Basic computer training employees as per need.

The chief objective of the centre is to empower the youth of the country with adequate skill sets that will enable their employment in relevant sectors and also improve productivity. The Centre has been run various Skill development job oriented short-term courses under the Govt. of India since its inception. The objectives of the centre are-

• • To strengthen the technical skill-sets of the students.
• • To introduce Skill Development under New and Traditional fields.
• • To focus on UN SDGs and Industrial Revolution 4.0.
• • To focus on Process, Service, Teaching, Training, Research, Skill and competencies, technology excellence and placement service etc.

Currently the centre has been offering following skill development courses under two major scheme of Govt. of India :

1. ‘Skill Hub Initiative’ under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikash Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0) : Knowledge and skills are the driving forces for social development and economic growth for any country. As there is demand-supply mismatch, the economy needs more ‘skilled’ workforce than in the availability of it. In the higher education sphere, knowledge and skills are required for diverse forms of employment in all the industry sectors and other services. By realizing the importance and the necessity for developing skills among students, National Education Policy 2020 emphasized on mainstreaming vocational education and to enable removal of academic silos, a Credit based framework to ensure vertical and horizontal pathways for students and creating work-ready human capital. Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in consultation with Ministry of Education (MoE) has planned to implement the ‘Skill Hub Initiative’ under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0). Scheme aims to facilitate and make education more relevant and create industry fit skilled workforce. Skill Hubs are nodal skill centres identified to provide skill development and vocational training opportunities (introduction to world-of-work through orientation, industry visits, bag-less days,aimed at exposing students to skill development avenues), school dropouts and out-of-education (aimed for academic credit, mainstreaming back to education and or apprenticeship and employment linkages).NSDC/MSDE has initially identified a few College/ Universities for participation in the initiative. Nalbari Commerce has been chosen to be one of the training provider institute and Training Centre under the Skill Hub Initiative. NECB 2.0 Skill based Job oriented courses” under the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology : India is going to have the largest working age population in the world by 2030, but gainful employment for students from the general stream is a major challenge. Improving the employability of students requires a new vision with curricular support. With the roll-out of the National Education Policy (NEP) in 2020, there has been a renewed focus on vocational skill training imparted by higher education institutes, thus integrating mainstream academics with practical vocational skill training. Inline of NEP Nalbari Commerce College associated as a Academic Partner with National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, Guwahati (an organization under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Govt. of India) for conduct below NECB 2.0 Skill based Job oriented courses.
